ISSUE NO. 006 · AUGUST 14, 2026

Fantasy Football 101.

Because this year, we're drafting our own teams.

🏈 A little different this week

You can draft your own team.

Maybe you joined the office league because everyone else was doing it. Maybe your family needed one more person. Maybe you usually hand your phone to the nearest football-obsessed person and ask them to draft for you.

Not this year. This Playbook covers what you actually need to know to draft your own team, keep up during the season, and maybe even win the whole thing.

📋 Meet your roster

Build an imaginary team with real NFL players.

  • QB: Your quarterback. Important, but that does not automatically mean you draft one first.
  • RB and WR: The running backs and receivers who usually form the core of your roster.
  • TE and FLEX: A tight end plus a flexible spot for an extra running back, receiver, or tight end.
  • D/ST and K: A team defense and a kicker. Save these for the end of the draft.
  • Bench: Players on your team who are not currently in your starting lineup.

🧠 Fantasy lingo

The words you actually need.

PPR

Point per reception

Players earn points for catches in addition to yards and touchdowns. Check your league settings before the draft.

ADP

Average draft position

A quick guide to where a player is typically selected.

WAIVER WIRE

Your in-season shopping trip

Available players you can add when injuries, breakouts, or roster changes create an opportunity.

BYE WEEK

Your player's week off

If a player's NFL team is not playing, move that player out of your starting lineup.

🚩 Draft-night mistakes we're not making

1

Drafting a quarterback first just because you recognize the name. Build value, not celebrity.

2

Drafting your entire favorite team. Spread your roster across the league.

3

Forgetting bye weeks. Too many players off together can leave a lineup full of zeroes.

4

Taking a defense or kicker too early. Use those early rounds on potential starters.

🛋️ Fi's couch report

Mock drafts help more than you think.

“Do a mock draft. Or 17. Whatever feels right.”

Practice drafts help you recognize players, see when positions usually come off the board, and feel much more confident when the real draft begins.

Build your team. Trust your picks.

📱 Your weekly five-minute routine

Check injuries and bye weeks, compare projections, scan the waiver wire, and set your lineup.

💬 One thing to bring up

“I'm loading up on RB and WR depth early and worrying about quarterback later.” Now you know.
